Help Portrait Saskatoon Shot of the Day 1

Despite our hour-long wait-in-the-parking-lot-until-someone-lets-us-in meeting, this year was a success. I'll let the smiles and photos speak for themselves.

Dave and Josh

A few years ago I did the work for a friend's CD covers, inserts and labels. Their new son was a great help. This was the rear cover for his album, Ordinary Man.

Saskatchewan Fencing Association 2011-2012 Provincial Team - 2

Corban

It has been said that every good photo should have some red in it. I think that's been covered here with one of my favourite little guys to photograph.

Rebecca's Grad

One of my favourites from the best shoot of my life to that point. So much fun, willingness to pose in fun ways, positive energy and excitement. I only wish the mosquitoes weren't so bad and that I had another hour with them all.

Rebecca Expecting - 2

Jason and Jenn - 3

From the first round of maternity photos. These were at the University of Saskatchewan.

Help-Portrait Saskatoon set the bar high this year.

Olivia

Solstice Sunrise with Olivia - 4

Olivia braved a crisp winter morning to help me make some nice images on the shortest day of the year. We were there in time for sunrise, but it was overcast. That didn't stop us, but the brilliant sky I hoped for was not to be. I guess Olivia just shone all the more, in contrast to the chilly morn. A big thank you to Rae McLeod for assisting with lights, posing and every other thing I couldn't do from my wheelchair, in my van with much snow on the ground. (https://500px.com/razer53)

UV Session 2-2

My favourite results from the second UV session. They both did so well and I look forward to more work with them. I've been fortunate to photograph them the last few years and will be happy to as the years pass and their talents grow. UV Session 1-7

I've always been fascinated by ultraviolet portraiture. Once I found the models and makeup artists I wanted to work with, and did my homework on how to get the most out of the props and lighting, it came together nicely. So nicely, in fact, second session, with two different models, was done only six days later. I find it captivating and that it fits my desire for vibrant and surreal colours in my photos. I see many more shoots like this in my future and welcome any talent that wants to participate in being a part of it. Thanks so much to Infinity Management for being so enthusiastic about this and being a critical part of this session being successful. CPA SK Photo Walk 1 - Cerulean Beauty

From our first Canadian Paraplegic Association of Saskatchewan excursion of 2015, Thanks, again, to Colleen A Shalley of Masala Model and Talent Agency.

Don Scott

With my wife and daughter away visiting for a few days I had a chance to turn our house into the studio I've always wanted. This meant a bit more of an extensive and elaborate shot than usual and it took a few days to pull together but I'm happy with the results. My favorite hat, my one grandfather's family ring, another grandfather's fine craftsmanship in the wooden box he made for each of his grandkids, a tie clip from a long time dear friend, my favorite drinkā€¦ More than just a photo but a conversation about the special things from some special people I have been blessed to have in my life.

Eight Months 2

Hard to believe that she's eight months old! It's been a difficult week, with some much less restful nights as she works on for teeth at the same time. Thankfully today she was able to break out a few of those heart-melting smiles so I could make a few frames and test out my new backdrop.

Samantha - 7

Samantha braved the brisk chill to pose outside for me, before we made our way through Health Sciences, stopping to shoot as we went. Photographer: Jay Scott Photography - Saskatoon Model: Samantha Willey of Infinity Management - Saskatoon Makeup: Missy Makeover - Saskatoon

Boomtown In Character - Samantha Willey

A session planned for the Unlimited Photographers of Saskatoon group, at the Western Development Museum, was a huge success. New friends, great enthusiasm, unbeatable setting and a great experience growing my relationships with the models of Infinity Management.

90s Punk Rock - 3

One of the best shoots, and best times, I've ever had. Everyone was on, the music was pumping and, sorry for the disproportionate number of shots of Leslie, but she was just making all the images and poses I had in my mind come to life. Ultraviolet Session 3 - Malorie Thomson 8

My third UV session went very well. When Malorie arrived, with the incredible work of Jennilee's on makeup, and Mel Corkum on hair, I knew we were in for awesome results. Many thanks to Gerald Murray Photography for the assistance, also. Model: Malorie Thomson of Infinity Management MUA: Jennilee Cardinal Schultz of Vamp Make-up Hair: Mel Corkum of Alchemy Girls

Guardian of the Bowl

This is my first attempt at some composite work. The freedom of the green screen really makes brutal winter conditions a nonissue when you have a heated studio to work in while the wind whistles outside. I see room for improvement, but for my first attempt it's all right and I will be making more than a few additional final images with the raw material I have to work with. Malorie UV Session 2 - 6

Our original idea for a UV shoot came to fruition in the second session with Malorie. Once again, the makeup was spot on and stunning. Malorie was totally into it, motivated further by The Little Mermaid soundtrack. And, I feel like the props I put together were perfect. It's not everyday that I find a good use for the giant clam shell left to my wife by her grandmother. I make no secret that my favourite Rapella had an opportunity to be useful and Malorie's prop contribution of the sea shells was perfect for the mood of the shoot. My one regret, if there has to be an, is that the contact lenses dried out. I should have opened another set for her, but I do appreciate the effect of the inky black eyes for the deep water mermaid concept. Erin Coombes - 8

Some of my favourite results from my first session with one of Infinity Management's newest models, Erin Coombes. Watch out for her in the future. She has minute facial control like I've never seen before and knows her best poses and expressions very well. Model: Erin Coombes MUA: Holly Decker Makeup Artistry Agency: Infinity Management

Joan Benko - Innovation Place - 6

I have worked with Joan one time before, on a cold Saskatoon winter day at a large winter collaborative shoot involving dozens of each photographers, models, stylists and makeup artists. Despite the cold weather, that was a great icebreaker and made working with her the second time just that much easier. This gathering was for the Unlimited Photographers of Saskatoon group, a group that I manage to provide accessible gatherings for. Those could include chances to shoot, social gatherings or educational gatherings. Her experience with acting and performing with her Egyptian dance troupe makes her a natural in front of the camera. Once again, she knows herself, her best looks and what works well for her. I received great feedback about these photos and that's what makes everybody better at what they do, helping each other to grow. Kymm Wright - UV Session 1 - 7

My fourth ultraviolet session was with Kymm Wright of Infinity Management. It was the first opportunity I've had to move beyond the tighter portraits and into a theme of a larger scene, going for more photos that included the full body, including the stunning checkerboard my wife and dad were diligent about putting together for me. We had to do a few makeup touchups because it wasn't showing as much as we were hoping, which is also why we used a bit more vibrant side lighting, but I thought that it was a fine shoot and fun time. It's amazing how quickly you can burn through a lot of dry ice, though.
